FAQ l Skinlaza Frequently Asked Question

What does IPL stand for ?

It’s an acronym for ‘intense pulsed light’. This kind of revolutionary technology is clinically-proven and has been used in professional settings for more than 15 years. Now, the powerful, fast pulsing light is available in a handheld, DIY device that’s safe for use at home.

How does the IPL affect hair growth?

Unlike shaving, which just cuts hair off at the surface, the intense light destroys the hair cells and treats at the root. The light energy and subtle heat are absorbed by melanin (color) in your hair, then poof – it’s destroyed, though it won’t fall out immediately! That puts the follicle in a ‘sleep state’ to dramatically slow regrowth.

Is it even safe?

Absolutely, yes! The technology is clinically-proven and completely safe. In fact, it’s primarily used by dermatologists in professional salons.

Does this work for all skin tones and hair colors?

The Deluxe IPL works for most skin tones and hair colors but isn’t effective for users with very dark skin because the melanin in your skin will absorb the laser heat instead of the hair follicle. Similarly, very light blonde, red, and grey hair won’t be effectively treated because there isn’t enough melanin to heat up and destroy the cells. The Deluxe IPL device works best for users with light skin and dark hair.

Some conditions preclude the use of IPL for safe hair removal:

Skin conditions - such as eczema, burns, hair follicle inflammation, psoriasis or if your skin is photosensitive.

Tanned skin - never use IPL on recently tanned or sunburnt skin (including fake tan) - you will need to wait several weeks until the tanning has faded.

Pregnancy - IPL is not advised during pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding

Tattoos - you should not treat tattooed skin with IPL.

Permanent make-up - you should not treat the area with permanent make-up.

Warts or Moles - IPL is not suitable for those areas. The list above is not by any means exhaustive - do read all manufacturer's safety precautions prior to using any home IPL machine. If you are not sure, always consult your doctor first.

How many session will I need?

Users have experienced shedding within a few days of their initial treatment session. However, due to the different stages in the hair growth cycle, multiple sessions are necessary to target the hair follicles.

People need at least 4-6 treatments to see long-lasting results but it would vary depending on the body area they are treating, hormonal growth, lifestyle and medication.

In addition, touch-ups may be required over time.Users should see results after the first treatment – their hairs will grow back finer and the skin will become smoother. Results will become more noticeable and impressive with each additional treatment until all follicles are damaged, successfully preventing continuous hair growth.

How is the handset powered and can it be used worldwide?

Our handsets come with a 12V power supply which can be used worldwide. We will also provide the plug based on your location needs.

How long will one session take?

Skinlaza offers Automatic mode where you can enjoy the conviniency of our automatic flashes.

Depending on the body area that needs treatment, each session’s length can vary. A session for the underarms can take less than a minute and for each full arm it takes 2-4 minutes. In general, treatments take between 15 to 45 minutes depending on the size of the whole treatment areas.

Is it safe to use while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Just like that glass of red wine, it’ll have to wait. Just as a precaution, please do not use this device while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Is this permanent hair removal?

Our Device offers extremely long lasting results however no form of laser hair removal is permanent, even at the clinics. Just be careful when companies claim “permanent” hair removal, as this term technically means that there will be no regrowth of hair for 6 months. To maintain long-term results we advise using our Device once a week for 8 weeks, then just once every month or 3 months for maintenance.

Will I feel any pain?

No, it’s almost entirely painless – and compared to waxing or plucking, it’s a dream! Some users experience a warm, tingling sensation, but that’s all.

Can I use this for all-over hair removal?

Yes! The all-in-one device is safe to use across your entire body – legs, arms, armpits, mustache, and even Brazilian. Just make sure to take extra care when treating areas around your eyes.

Am I allowed to tan with the Deluxe IPL?

You should definitely avoid artificial tanners. If you’ve recently used a tanning bed, it’s best to wait 2 weeks before using the device, and also wait 48 hours after treatment to tan again.

Should I shave first?

It’s really important to shave with a sharp razor approximately 12-24 hours before using the handset. We know, shaving isn’t fun, but this ensures that there is no hair on the surface to absorb light waves and cause burns.

How do I manage my hair between treatments?

The IPL laser affects the root of your hair, so you should never wax, pluck, or otherwise remove the entire hair during the 8-week regimen. Instead, simply shave when required and enjoy the smooth, soft skin transformation.

How do I protect my eyes from the flash light?

The device has a built-in safety sensor, so it won’t pulse and flash light unless the entire treatment window is pressed against your skin. But for extra eye protection, we includes safety spectacles.

How do I Clean my handset ?

Cleaning of the handset is advised after each use. You can use an alcohol wipe, or any antibacterial product to clean down the handset and the light window after treatment. Ensure your handset is powered off, and not plugged in before doing so. You should then store the handset in a cool, dry place after use (once the handset is completely dry).

Can i use IPL over tattoos ?

You should not IPL over tattoos. The light energy will be more attracted to the pigments in the skin, rather than the melanin in the hair which can cause a reaction in the skin and blistering. You should always go around your tattoos.

Are there any side effects to IPL ?

When using the handset as recommended, side effects are rare. Redness and swelling is the most common side effect from IPL, which will quickly subside after treatment.

What is the Skin Rejuvenation setting ?

This device also includes a unique Skin Rejuvenation Setting at the Level 1 Light Intensity which can be used weekly.

The device releases a pulse of filtered light that stimulate the fibroblast cells within the skin that produce collagen and elastin.

By stimulating collagen production, this results in an improved and more youthful skin tone and texture. It is effective in controlling fine lines, acne and sun damage.

When I place the device on the skin, why the device does not release a flash?

Please make sure the device is at a 90 degrees angle on the skin so that the sensor behind of the contact surface can detect your skin.

Why the device produces a strange smell?

Either the light exit window is dirty or your body hairs were not completely shaved so the burned hairs produced the strange smell.

Why my skin reaction after treatment lasts longer than usual?

You may have used a light intensity setting that's too high for your skin type.

I don't see a significant results after the treatment, why?

You may have used a light intensity setting that too slow for your skin type. Or you respond more slowly to IPL treatment.

Why the device/adapter becomes warm during treatment?

This is normal. The device produces large energe when it emits lighting which causes the device to warm up.

Why can the appliance be used only by those people beyond 18 years old?

This is because of unstable hormone balance when growing up and the skin can become sensitive easily.

The pain and redness do not subside after use but is this a problem?

Treated skin may temporarily turn red or feel painful depending on the body type or condition of the person using the appliance. Stop using the appliance immediately, and moist. If the symptoms subside within 2 days, use the device again with lower light intensity after symptoms disappeared. If the symptoms persist over 2 days, consult a dermatologist.

Where to use it for (Face, Bikini Lines, Underarm)?

Most of the body hairs can be safely removed by IPL hair removal handset including: underarms, lip, chin, legs, Brazilian, bikini lines, or back/chest.

However, never use the device on the following areas:

• Around the eyes or near the eyebrows

• On the lips, nipples, areolas, labia minora, vagina, anus and the inside of the nostrils and ears.

• Men must not use the device on the face and neck including all beard-growing areas, nor on the whole genital area.

• On areas where you use long-lasting deodorants.

• Over or near anything artificial like silicone implants, subcutaneous injection ports (for instance an insulin dispenser) or piercings.

How does it remove hair?

IPL Hair Removal Device emits powerful light pulse when applied to the surface of your clean, shaved skin. The light travels through the skin, more energy will be absorbed by darker area (with high concentration of melanin). The hair shaft and bulb (root) are usually where the highest concentration of melanin are located. Once melanin absorbs the light energy, it is transformed into thermal energy.

As a result, the bulb and most of the hair shaft are heated, which impacting the hair-producing papilla and the darker capillaries that bring blood to the follicle. The aim is to permanently damage the hair follicle sufficiently to prevent hair regrowth. Therefore, the hair follicles will turn into a state of necrosis for a long period of time. Even if they do grow back, they tend to be lighter, finer, and fewer in number which can reduce the appearance of hair on the skin.
